::Since I've came back and have been somewhat active I noticed a significant shift in the overall attitudes here. :Overall, the community has gotten much younger as our Z's have depreciated in value and are more easily afforded by 16 year olds. Could this be a factor?Absolutely. Kids are kids. They want to be adults, but simply lack the experience to act as adults. Same can be said for some adults that should act like adults but still don't. There are exceptions to every rule, but in general the inexperience of the teenage world is a different thing then what I'd like to see around here, but that's becoming our demographic. :I think that all of our parents have at one time told us "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" I think the same should apply here. :I admit some members are a bit too harsh with their constructive criticism. However, this "feel good" parenting where only positive reinforcement is given has created a generation of kids that are unable to deal with criticism and the harsh realities of the real world.
That might be going too far. I think that rule is kinda like the Golden Rule. It's not a bad way to be. Not offering creative criticism is something else and not being able to differentiate between that and just being rude really makes things screwed up. I think that's where you're going. Things like 'no fail' school, lack of dodgeball and crap like that is what's really screwing up America's youth.
